Classroom Temperature Guidelines

I am wondering if there are specific temperature guidelines we can use to establish a campus wide "temperature policy". I haven't found anything on the ASHRAE or BOMA websites which specifically addresses this question.

  • I'm sorry to report that at my facility we have catered too much to individuals and as such they carry their preferences with them when they attend classes or conferences.  Naturally this creates a headache for my engineering staff.  Unfortunately my management has yet to let me establish and enforce a total building standard.  They may be getting close now that energy costs have risen but they aren't there yet.  Because my facility is over fifty years old, in most cases we are dealing with antiquated technology.  In general we attempt to maintain average winter temperatures in the 72-75 degree range and 68-72 degrees in the summer throughout the whole facility, but there are exceptions and those are the killers.

I hope you get better support than I do.
