Plant Maintenance is part of a package that was developed by IBM as the Asset Management module within SAP. When configure correctlly is very powerful as is most CMMS. If your company is using SAP as its Business Management System, Plant management is an additional module. Lots of flow charting to develop your system.

I am familiar with the system. However, I have been told by some who use it that it is not that user friendly. I am using Infor/Data Stream 7i which is a very user friendly system.

It is part of the Warehouse management module of SAP. In 2005 we(NASA) looked at adding the Warehouse module to our  suite of SAP. Budget cut made us go another direction!!!!!!

  I am still on MP2 6 and am thinking about upgrading to 7i or switching to a new system. Can you tell me more about 7i? How did you get to 7i?  How was the learning curve/transition? 

There are certainly many options for an enterprise level CMMS. In terms of a comparable option for replacing MP2, there are several. Depending on your requirements, there is a simple upgrade to Infor EAM Business edition. There are extra tables where your old MP2 will be stored and you will have new functionality and a web based platform.

there are easy upgrade routes to Enterprise Edition and Asset Sustainability (if you wish to add energy consumption to help with condition based maintenance) just by changing the keycode. 

Infor EAM (Datastream 7i) is a great easy to use system and there are instances of people using it to frontend other (legacy all-in-one difficult to use) systems.

I heard from several universities at APPA that the change from MP2 to 7i was almost like going to a new system entirely.  You may want to investigate other systems out there before making the jump.

yes, it is a upgrade with more capabilities including moving from a client server architecture to a web based system. As with all upgrades, there is a learning curve.

However, with the ability to simply import your existing MP2 data and a company (Infor) that is very keen to upgrade MP2 and MP5 users to Infor Enterprise Asset Management (the new name for 7i) this is a much much easier route than starting again from scratch. You will also have the option of having your solution hosted by Infor as all that is required now is a web browser to access. 

Infor EAM also gives you a simple upgrade route between versions - change the serial key and you have the ability to use condition based maintenance using readings from Water, Air, Gas, Electricity or Steam meters - otherwise known as WAGES.
