  • I recommend you look for other areas  to conserve energy unless the windows need replacing or noise is the issue.

  • Yes, I have a lot of energy savings items that could be completed such as the HVAC (23k cfm negative in the building) and a $300K bill to balance the building, but with todays economy the windows are a good place to start. The windows are from the original build date of 1961 with 191 measured at 44"x32". The quotes to replace the  windows are 275K so I am looking for ideas and calculation to help with my idea.

  • There is an alternative to window replacement.  You should contact a solar film company.  They can install solar film on your windows to save energy.  They can help you calculate the energy loss of your current windows and demonstrate how much energy their solar film can save.  Then you can evaluate which is the most cost effective.  My building was built a few years before yours and is almost entirely glass.  Most of our windows are over 120 inches high and 108 inches wide.  We found the solar film to be our best option.

  • You're right about solar film for windows. It helps improve energy efficiency in the summer by eliminating the heat coming from the sun through the windows, thus lowering the energy consumption resulting from the use of air conditioning. Look for your local 3M window film distributor and they will be happy to answer all your questions and show you the energy loss and the improved efficiency resulting from the use of solar film.
