There are many keys to a successful sustainability program, but one element that is often neglected is metering of energy use. With metered energy data, Bayer technology services - site management could charge back individual buildings for energy consumption, forcing them to take ownership of their energy use. But justifying the investment in metering can be an obstacle. How have facility managers won funding for meter installation? How have the investments paid off?
More generally, what measures have you taken to develop sustainability programs?
Mr. Sullivan, I just joined the forum and noted that you posted a comment back in April about my site at Bayer. Yes, energy monitoring is hard to justify but we convinced management to let us invest over a couple year period using published successes to help justify and the fact that you need energy consumption data for Energy Star designation. They funded the project and we have seen about a 1 year payback by directly charging users for what they use/waste. As we gain history with building consumptions, we plan to use it to address anomalies in consumption immediately.
