Why does this article totally ignore the US Green Buidling Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) principles? Why reinvent the wheel?
Not to be cynical, but probably because there is a lot of money to be made in being the entity creating the standards. After all, you can then sell the certifications, the tests, the study programs and your members can have an edge in providing services related to the standards. This isn't to say there aren't benefits to green principles, just that there are a lot of people jockeying right now to make money from the industry.
It is fun to be cynical. I worked for a large institution at one time where it was frowned upon to call yourself cynical and opinionated .................you were hogging two attributes!
My first thought was that maybe they didn't like bike racks.
Then I went the the ICC website. I these days of globalization it was interesting the find that international meant the organization added Canada and the Caribbean to its US influence. Well, international is international.
LEED, Energy Star, and the NFPA codes are my guidelines.
