On-site power generation is nothing new for facility executives. Many facility executives have backup generators on site, with a number of them using the using the generators to cut peak demand as a way to save on energy costs.

And an increasing number of facility executives are gaining experience with renewable on-site power sources such as solar power. But an announcement from California-based AgriPower appears especially intriguing.

The company is introducing a cogeneration system that burns a variety of waste products and in the process, produces heat and 225 kw of electricity. The system is modular, and according to the company, is significantly cheaper to run than diesel generators.

But savvy facility executives will be wondering: What kind of emissions does a biomass generator produce? The company's CEO told Cnet.com that it has met California's emissions requirements.

For companies that are already generating a regular waste stream, (and paying tipping fees to dispose of the waste) a portable biomass generator that has clean emissions, if proven, would be music to many facility executives' ears.
