With 875 Billion dollars of our money getting ready to be spent, what do we as Facilities and Engineering pros think the best uses for the package?
Give everyone money so they can spend it quick, but continue to stay in debt. It doesn't matter what it is spent on as it will have no impact. The economic outlook will remain the same regardless. Consumer debt will stay high. Credit will still be difficult to get. Housing prices will remain low. Maybe if they forced everyone to use the money toward a retirement account in the stock market it would have a more lasting effect.
Start bringing as much of our hard earned money as possible back home.
Start with energy. It seems to have the best bang for the buck out there in jobs and keeping money out of the hands of those that want to kill us and are forcing us to keep our military overseas.
The market will determine the winners, but we've got to kick the foreign oil habit. Explore everything with government grants and prototype plants. Methane, CNG, Ethanol, Methanol, Lithium-Ion battery technology, Photovoltaics, Bio-diesel, etc. It's time for a "Manhatten Project." on energy, especially transportation energy.
